Earlier this month, the 41 successful bids in the latest round of Myplace funding to transform youth facilities were announced.
They will share around £180m to build or renovate youth centres through the package, which is managed by the Big Lottery Fund. The fund has now supported 62 projects and a final round of funding, worth £30m in total, is to launch this spring.
One of the most important criteria judges are looking for is proof that young people have not only been consulted but are closely involved in the design and development of projects.
The charity 4Children, which has supported four of the successful bids, says that often the first stage in such consultation is group discussions with youth workers. This presents a good opportunity to gather the views of young people about local services and find out exactly what kind of youth facility they want.
