The National Trust is campaigning to generate interest in the countryside. Start a discussion to find out how young people feel about the great outdoors

At the end of last month, the National Trust launched a six-month campaign to reignite people's interest in the great outdoors. It claims that young people are at risk of growing up without experiencing outdoor activities, and has recommended that schools encourage pupils to get outside. How do young people feel about spending time outdoors?

Start a discussion about young people's attitudes towards the countryside. Do young people ever spend time walking in woodlands or taking part in outdoor activities? Do they enjoy it? Why? How many of them have been camping? Ask the young people to recount their experiences. What did they like or dislike about it?
