Our society places an immense amount of pressure on today's young people, so it's not surprising that some might feel troubled and may struggle to cope with their emotions. UK charity YoungMinds is today (26 January) launching a national participation project to raise awareness about children and young people's mental health, and the stigma often associated with mental health issues. Family relationships; friendships; health; bullying; unemployment; school; and body image are just some of the demands placed on mental wellbeing that young people face every day.
Throughout their teenage years, young people will become more aware of their emotions, and will experience the highs of hysteria and elation right down to the lows of anger, sadness and depression. Ask young people to recall the different emotions they have felt already today. How many can they remember? Have young people themselves ever worried about their own mental health? How did they feel about it?
