Bullying can make young people lose their self-esteem and confidence, which can make it difficult to find new friends, as you need to be confident to go up to someone and talk to them.
I would encourage every school to have a peer mentoring programme, as I believe these work well because they engage students and mean that they won't be called a grass for reporting a bullying problem. Instead they will get peace of mind from knowing that older students have been trained to deal with certain situations and how to resolve issues. Young people need to be encouraged to stand up and speak out.
