Sure Start: Primary place for family skills centre

A Sure Start programme in Bradford is gearing up for the launch of a family skills centre at a primary school.

Sure Start Bierley, Holmewood and Tyersal successfully bid for 175,000 of EU funding, and put in the same amount to build the centre atCarrwood School. Local parents will be able to take a range of coursesand training at the facility, which will also offer information, adviceand a creche.

The Sure Start operates as a limited company, which allows it to draw ondifferent funding sources. "We're not part of the local authority orprimary care trust. They commission services from us," said programmemanager Sarah Procter.
