Dylan Harrison, who has been involved with Sure Start since he became a trailblazer manager in 2000, spoke out following a series of reports accusing Sure Start of not reaching those who need it the most. He told CYP Now it is not enough to simply say Sure Start needs time to become successful. "I feel we need to turn it around and learn from this research," he said. "We can't just say 'it's still early days' because it has been seven-and-a-half years. We can't just keep saying it will turn around."
This summer saw a spate of critical reports, including those from the government's National Evaluation of Sure Start. All concluded that centres are failing to reach the most disadvantaged families.
