The draft guidance will set out how local authorities and some primary care trusts will be affected by provisions of the new act, in relation to children's centres.
The proposed guidance will build on existing guidance published by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. The act amends the Childcare Act 2006 to make Sure Start children's centres recognised in statute for the first time, and establishes the inspection of children's centres by Ofsted. The consultation includes a policy statement that explains proposals for these inspections. It states that all centres must be inspected for the first time by 31 August 2014. Those that are not yet open are also included, further to the government's target of having all children's centres up and running by 31 August 2010.
