Private and voluntary childcare providers, such as nurseries and pre-schools, have representation through bodies such as the National Day Nurseries Association and the Pre-school Learning Alliance. But until now there has been no representative network specifically for children's centre leaders.
The network will see leaders at a regional level share best practice, carry out training to meet targets such as child poverty, get involved in mentoring and contribute to policy.
A spokeswoman for the Department for Children, Schools and Families said: "The network will be a key forum for centre leaders to share practice and will empower them to develop skills and confidence."
