Manchester City Council has secured a number of places at Leapfrog DayNursery in a move it says is aimed at meeting the needs of the localcommunity.
The initiative will see Leapfrog's nursery in Fallowfield workingclosely with the Wilbraham Sure Start Centre and sharing best practiceand training.
Andrew Fitzmaurice, chief executive of Nord Anglia Education, which runsLeapfrog, said: "We are delighted to be working with Sure Start and tobe the first Leapfrog nursery to test this initiative is great. It is areally exciting time for everyone involved and the partnership will helpthe whole community and open up lots of opportunities to localfamilies."
A spokeswoman for Manchester City Council said the places at Leapfrogwould be used to provide childcare for particularly vulnerable children,many of whom were likely to be from other areas of the city. Parentswill still be able to access all services from Sure Start and a SureStart teacher will be working with Leapfrog on all areas of thecurriculum, said the spokeswoman. "The aim is to develop servicesthrough sharing best practice," she added.
