Success on a plate: West London pupils make healthy red noodlesoup

Seven-year-olds Hanan Ali (left) and Timnit Berhane try out the red noodle soup they made for a healthy eating competition run by the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. Children from 12 primary schools across the west London borough took part in the contest, which was held to mark British Food Fortnight. Pupils had to send the judges their recipe and were encouraged to make their soups with help from their teachers.

Sir John Lillie Primary School, where Hanan and Timnit are pupils, alsotook the children to Fulham's North End Road Market. Teacher MichelleFattorini said: "We took the children down to the market so they couldbuy the ingredients and learn the names of the vegetables and herbs thatwere used."
