Substance misuse: Drugs plan will put onus on a better education

Jacqui Smith also promised an extra 5.6m for drug information campaign Frank.

The consultation paper, Drugs: Our Community, Your Say, highlights that the the most effective approach to helping young people avoid and over-come drug problems is to give a key role to schools, as well as the families of young people abusing drugs.

It also emphasises the need for training in substance misuse issues for all the professionals who work with young people.

The document states: "It is more effective to address all substances that are misused by young people, including illegal drugs, alcohol and volatile substances, rather than to focus on one type."
