David Regis, research manager for the unit, said: "Young people in rural areas may have as much disposable income, freedom and easy access to drugs as young people in cities."
Separately, the Alcohol Harm Reduction Group, representing Alcohol Concern, London Drug and Alcohol Network and Turning Point, has published a survey of youth attitudes towards alcohol. It found that young people are aware of the dangers, but did not use this knowledge.
