Following the publication of the Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy (YPN, 17-23 March, p5), the council has launched the Alcohol Task Group.
This will work to educate young people about drinking responsibly, as well as campaigning to alcohol retailers.
The group is made up of representatives from the council, Blyth Valley Housing, Northumberland Care Trust, Northumbria Police, along with other local agencies, including Sorted!, a youth substance misuse team.
Jerry Hayes, development worker at Northumberland Drug Action Team and a member of the Alcohol Task Group, said: "We want to make a significant contribution to the people of the borough, in terms of working with young people and retailers alike and educating the general public about alcohol-related issues and the positive action that can be taken."
