The Children's Plan shines a light on the negative effects that bullyinghas on the lives of young people. In particular, it recognises thatbullying can have a long-term impact on their confidence, self-esteem,mental health and social and emotional development. Over the past decadethe government has striven to eradicate all forms of bullying inschools. However, while progress has been made there is still more thatwe can do.
Discussions at CYP Now's conference that opened Anti-Bullying Week lastyear centred on how there is a need to send a clear and positive messagethat bullying is neither acceptable nor inevitable in our communities.It was acknowledged that prejudice-driven bullying in particular has tobe recognised and specifically addressed.
