The Quality Mark for Services for Young People, developed by the agency in partnership with the Department for Education and Skills and the Local Government Association, was launched last year, after three years of development (YPN, 25-31 January 2006, p4).
The quality mark enables organisations to assess themselves against 11 indicators. More than 100 organisations have subscribed to the selfassessment framework, the first step in gaining the award.
Rod Norton, young people's services manager at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, said it took his team nine months to achieve the award from the time it started considering it.
He said: "We had a Joint Area Review assessment in June, so we used the quality mark as a way of preparing for that as well. The two things together were a real drive for service improvement."
