1 min read
Campaigners have welcomed the Government's aim to boost sport and culture for young people but have questioned whether its objectives are achievable.

Under the Creative Sparks initiative, highlighted in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport's five-year plan, released last week, the Government wants every child to have carried out 10 cultural tasks, such as taking part in a theatre production and performing a piece of music live, by the time they leave school.

Anne Longfield, chief executive of 4Children, commended the idea but said: "It is good to have an arts strategy alongside a sports one. Unfortunately the Government does not seem to have any idea of how this will be delivered."

The department also reiterated its aim that every child should be doing two hours a week of school sport and two to three hours outside school by 2010.
