Special needs: Company accused of lax CRB policy

A trade union steward has claimed he was offered a job driving disabled children and told he could "start tomorrow" despite not having undergone criminal checks.

The GMB steward posed as an applicant for a driving position withcontractor Impact, which transports disabled people, including 60children from three special schools, on behalf of the London Borough ofEaling.

The union said the steward was told he could start working beforecriminal record checks took place and that some of the people he wouldbe driving were "disabled and a bit mad".

Ealing Council has now launched an investigation into the allegations. Aspokesman said: "We are taking these allegations seriously and will doeverything necessary to ensure vulnerable residents are treated with theutmost care, safety and respect."
