Funded by the Office of Civil Society, the two organisations have directly supported a total of six intergenerational pilot projects, assisted a wider group of intergenerational youth-led network members and hosted a number of events to share best practice.
On 17 March 2011, several of the pilots met with other exemplar youth-led projects to showcase the difference bridging the divide between generations has made to their communities and to mark the end of this project.
In addition to the pilot projects, whose work is showcased in this Special Focus edition, attendees included Corby Intergenerational project, led by Groundwork North Northants.
Danielle Wilson, a young person from the Corby project, shared her experiences of intergenerational work and summarised the consensus of the day by saying: "It is so important to break down barriers, whether real or perceived, between young people and older generations. You learn from each other and open your eyes to new things, which neither side may have considered before. As a result, you forge a link and break down perceptions that have the potential to breed fear and other negative emotions."
