The first year of secondary school for 13-year-old Samuel was trulymiserable. Challenging behaviour associated with Asperger syndrome lefthim having to spend most of the school year searching for a suitableschool.
Samuel's mum Karen says that within weeks of moving up to secondaryschool he had fallen victim to bullies and felt intimidated. He lashedout through behaviour such as swinging his bag and refusing to get off adesk. After two months both Karen and the school felt things weren'tworking out.
The school tried to help Karen find a more suitable place for Samuel,which included a trial period at another school with a teachingassistant known to Samuel.
