Software to link up schools with youth justice system

Software under development by the Youth Justice Board (YJB) is set to improve the way children are educated in custody.

As part of the Wiring Up Youth Justice programme (WUYJ), the organisation is looking to build on IT systems that can pass key information about a young person instantly between relevant professionals.

Phil Sutton, head of business change at WUYJ, said his team is working to link up with schools to share information so education within the youth justice system is more tailored.

"We will be able to transfer educational information from local authorities to youth offending teams and back out again," he said.

The YJB has also revealed that chief information officer for WUYJ, Mike Mackay, has left the organisation.

Earlier this year, it emerged Mackay cost the YJB £336,000 last year.
