Social Services

1 min read Social Care Participation
It seems nowadays that teenagers don't have a say in anything. We're always being told what we can do and what we can't, and when it comes to social services, where we live and who we live with.

If I were in charge of social services, I'd change the way things are run. Every child in care should have a say in the way they are brought up and who they live with. Being in the system, sometimes this gets forgotten and we end up feeling taken control over and bossed around.

This is where I would step in. I would make sure young people in care are able to express their views openly about where they would like to live. If a young person is not happy, they will not prosper.

I would also change the way social services have set meetings to see their cases. Most kids in care hardly see their social workers and this is wrong. Social services cannot expect us to build a connection with them if we hardly ever see them.
