SOCIAL EXCLUSION: Research recognises Fairbridge's work

1 min read

The evaluation found Fairbridge's work has a positive, long-term impact on young people.

The research was conducted with 318 young people at four Fairbridge centres, in Kent, Cardiff, Tyneside and Glasgow. They completed assessments of the effects of Fairbridge's intensive skills and activities course.

Improved personal and social skills were the short-term benefits, with 30 per cent showing a "marked positive effect".

These benefits were not sustained after a year, but the young people reported higher confidence and were in a stronger position in terms of education, employment and training, and life skills.

After one year, eight in 10 reported some positive, long-term change in their attitude and self-esteem.
