In a call to mark Carers Week 2005, which runs from 13 to 19 June, Barnardo's said professionals needed to be more aware of the role young carers played in their families.
"Families are fearful about being split up so will go out of their way not to identify what is happening at home on care provision," said Nikki Thompson, children's services manager at Barnardo's Carefree young carers project in Leicestershire.
Meanwhile, the Children's Society is celebrating Carers Week by inviting young carers' projects and groups to the young carers festival on 1 to 3 July 2005, which it jointly organises with YMCA Fairthorne Manor.
