Social Care News: Workforce - Lords to debate the social work'crisis'

The Government will be criticised for failing to tackle the crisis in social work in a House of Lords debate tomorrow (Thursday 13 October).

"Clearly there's a danger that the Every Child Matters agenda is at riskunless the problem of recruitment and retention is addressed," said theEarl of Listowel, who has called the debate.

The debate comes as the Government admits that the ministerial workinggroup set up to develop the social care side of the children's workforcestrategy has not reported over the summer as promised.

The work will now be taken forward with a joint review by the Departmentof Health and Department for Education and Skills known as Options forExcellence.
