8% of looked-after children placed more than 20 miles from home (18 per cent in England)

- 14% of looked-after children with three or more placements in 2004/05(13 per cent in England)

- 40% of young people left care aged 16 or over with at least one GCSEor GNVQ (50 per cent in England)

- 77% of children and young people communicated their views at theirlatest statutory review (81 per cent in England)

In December 2005 the Commission for Social Care Inspection saidStockton-on-Tees council was serving some children well and rated itscapacity for improving children's services as promising. It achievedtwo-stars overall. Inspectors said there had been a decrease in thenumber of children on the child protection register.
