89% of looked-after children under 10 are in foster care (80 per cent in England)
55% of care leavers engaged in education, training or employment (46 per cent in England)
13% of looked-after children were put in care following family problems (10 per cent in England)
Northumberland Council says its impressive record on getting care leavers into education and employment is because of the "pathway plans" written by the care leavers and their leaving care workers, which are reviewed every six months. The family placement team offers a wide variety of different types of fostering to suit the competencies of different parents - and the council says this is why more of its looked-after children are fostered than in the average authority.
