Social Care News: Residential care - Providers unite to influencepolicy

A new independent group, which has brought together some of the UK's largest residential care providers, has been formed to influence Government policy on children with complex and acute needs.

The Children's Services Development Group was set up this month and aimsto have its voice heard on forthcoming policy around looked-afterchildren. Members of the group include Cambian Group, Castlecare Group,Foster Care Associates, Priory Group and Senad.

The group is to run for a year to 18 months and was formed to raiseissues about policy and how it affects children with acute specialeducational needs following the publication of the Care Matters greenpaper.

Brian Jones, chief executive of Senad, said: "We have to make acontribution to informed debate in central and local government policy.We have a duty not to be just service providers."

Jones said the group wants to make a difference to policy and wantstheir views to be listened to, adding: "We need to make a difference,because if we can't, then who can?"
