Fit for the Future? Residential Child Care in the United Kingdom waslaunched at the National Centre for Excellence in ResidentialChildcare's annual conference. The researchers discovered that 48 percent of managers in the sector in England had a social workqualification compared with 93 per cent of their counterparts inNorthern Ireland, 44 per cent in Scotland and 42 per cent in Wales.
All managers in residential social care for children should hold an NVQLevel 4 in health and social care and a management qualification, orhold the registered manager award.
However, the report also found high staff morale in the sector. Aroundthree-quarters of staff in England, Scotland and Wales were eithersatisfied or very satisfied with their job as were 83 per cent inNorthern Ireland.
