Social Care News: Looked-after children - Silverback gorilla adoptschildren

A silverback gorilla called Joe has adopted 125 looked-after children in Leicestershire.

The primate lives at the county's Twycross Zoo.

Fee Scott, corporate parenting manager at Leicestershire County Council'said: "We want to provide leisure opportunities for our young people andsupport our foster carers. Twycross is in our patch and the staff therewere fantastic when we asked how we could work together."

The partnership started after this year's annual achievement awards forchildren in care. All 125 children who got an award received a free passto the zoo. This allows them and their foster family to visit the zoo asoften as they like.
