A council meeting yesterday (Tuesday 6 September) was expected to agreea pay rise of between 18 to 29 a week from October,costing the county council 300,000 for the rest of this financialyear. In addition, from April they could get more money to bring paymentlevels in line with national minimum allowances, costing 1.2m ayear.
The council hopes to find the money by reducing the number of childrenit places outside the authority and with independent providers.
A 2004 survey by the Fostering Network showed 46 per cent of localauthorities in England, 91 per cent of authorities in Scotland, 50 percent in Wales and 100 per cent in Northern Ireland pay below therecommended minimum allowances (Children Now, 13-19 October).
