The Commission for Social Care Inspection report, Growing Up Matters:Better transition planning for young people with complex needs, saysurgent action is needed. The report claims councils do not provide thesame level of support for adults as for children, which means they maylose their independence.
Despite improvements in some areas, the report also says there isinadequate commissioning of services, poor co-ordination and a failureto plan with young people.
The chair of the commission, Dame Denise Platt, said: "Our study showsthat councils need to start planning early to ensure that young peoplewith disabilities have the chance to lead as independent a life aspossible once they reach adulthood."
