Social Care News: Children's Services - Council improvements must continue

1 min read
Councils have made significant improvements in the way they run children's services, according to a farewell report from three social care inspectorates.

But there are wide variations across the country and councils are "a long way from achieving excellence in all their services for children and families".

The report by the Social Services Inspectorate, the Audit Commission's joint reviews of social services and the National Care Standards Commission, was published ahead of tomorrow's launch of the new joint Commission for Social Care Inspection.

The report, All our lives: social care in England 2002-2003, said councils were improving the way they carried out their responsibilities to safeguard the welfare of children at risk of significant harm.

Councils are increasingly valuing the voices and views of children. Family group conferences are being used more to involve families more closely in the discussions on their reviews.
