Social Care news: Child Protection - Volunteers to help in twoauthorities

Volunteers have made their first visits to the homes of children on the child protection register.

The pilot project brings together the charity CSV (community servicevolunteers), and councils in Sunderland and Bromley, south London.Volunteers will support social workers and undertake a range ofactivities, including taking children to school. Volunteers must firstcomplete training and undergo numerous checks, including an enhancedCriminal Records Bureau disclosure.

Ian Johnston, director of the British Association of Social Workers'said: "We support the increased use of volunteers."
