Social Care News: Behavioural problems - Cornwall opens specialistcentre

Cornwall's first specialist centre for children with emotional and behavioural problems has opened in an attempt to keep them closer to their families.

Based at a former primary school near Redruth, the Nine Maiden Centrehas cost 473,000 to refurbish and offers non-residentialeducation and support for 10- to 13-year-olds.

Centre head Julia Marks said centre would reduce the number of childrenbeing sent out of Cornwall for care and education. Currently, childrencan be sent as far away as Lincoln and Kent.

Cornwall County Council is funding the centre.
