Community learning: Library opens in children's centre

The first public library in Manchester to be based in a children's centre has opened.

Clayton Library, previously located in temporary buildings, has beenmoved to the Wells Centre in Clayton, east Manchester. It offers DVD,toy and book loans, a children's space for story-telling, a cafe, an ITsuite with free broadband, baby-changing facilities and a creche.

East Manchester New Deal for Communities said the move cost 20,000 - cheaper than building a new library from scratch, and makes useof vacant space within the Wells Centre.

Sean McGonigle, East Manchester New Deal for Communities' co-ordinator'said: "Since the Wells Centre opened it has been a community hub.Bringing the library into this building will encourage more people tothe centre and make the library accessible to young and old."
