Social Care News: Behavioural Difficulties - Unique Welsh care home to expand

A unique care home and school set up by Welsh university experts for children with severe behavioural difficulties is set to expand.

All staff at the Bangor Centre for Development Disabilities, including support and night staff, are trained in applied behavioural analysis and must achieve a postgraduate certificate in behavioural analysis.

The centre is unique because of the application of applied behaviour analysis to the care, education and behavioural support of children. Around half the accredited behavioural analysts in the UK are based at the University of Wales, Bangor. The centre, which is based on Anglesey, has space for four residential placements and eight pupils.

There are plans for developing similar schemes in other areas of North Wales, as well as outreach services.
