The guidelines were produced after close consultation with the FosteringNetwork, the British Association for Adoption and Fostering and theCriminal Records Bureau (CRB).
They aim to eliminate confusion among carers and providers on when a CRBcheck should be carried out, after uncertainty was expressed aboutothers involved in the care of the children, such as a babysitter.
Robert Tapsfield, chief executive of the Fostering Network said: "Thesenew guidelines will help to protect looked-after children by providinglocal authorities and independent providers with clarification oneligibility for disclosure checks."
