Single-Sex Youth Work: Young women must be consulted

The charity is promoting the document at the Labour Party conference, which is taking place in Manchester this week.

The YWCA is concerned that young women are not being consulted sufficiently when plans are being developed.

Lucy Russell, policy development officer at the YWCA, said: "The way participation for young people is set up at the moment is aimed at engaged young people.

"The young people we work with lack confidence and have low self-esteem."

She added: "We are asking councillors how they are challenging gender stereotypes and whether they are consulting young women and whether they are thinking about their needs."
