SEXUAL OFFENCES: Bill will now protect sexual advisers

Following its third reading at the House of Lords last week, the bill will receive its second reading at the House of Commons on 8 July.

The bill has been criticised for a lack of distinction about consensual sex between young people and measures proposed to protect them (see Analysis p7).

The Home Office stated: "We accept that mutually agreed, non-exploitative, harmless sexual activity between teenagers takes place. We will amend guidance to the police in their use of reprimands and final warnings."
