SEXUAL HEALTH: East Sussex to get safer sex champion

Nicola Rejbakoz will tackle the statistics that show the region has teenage conception rates 44 per cent above the national average. Her appointment follows calls by fpa, formerly the Family Planning Association, for a contraception champion in each primary care trust (YPN, 12-18 February).

Rejbakoz said: "A major part of my role is to facilitate partnership working to ensure young people have access to high-quality information."

Other issues in Hastings to be tackled include making services more flexible, family planning environments more welcoming and improving counselling services for under-16s.

The area's Teenage Pregnancy Action Group aims to reduce unintended teenage pregnancies by 15 per cent by 2004 and by 50 per cent by 2010.
