The Home Office said over the weekend that five individuals withconvictions for drug and trafficking offences had applied to work ascarers, sports coaches and a foster carer, although none of the serioussex or violent offenders convicted abroad had been cleared to work withchildren.
Diana Sutton, NSPCC head of policy and public affairs, said: "We urgeaction to close this dangerous loophole and an investigation toestablish what happened."
She added that the NSPCC wanted an overhaul of the management ofoffenders including improved risk management and better information forparents.
Director of children's services for NCH Elaine Peace added: "We need toknow that immediate improvements and resources are being madeavailable."
