SEX EDUCATION: DfES advice aims at confidentiality

A Government campaign to assure young people that sex advice they receive from health professionals will be confidential has been welcomed.

Adverts will appear in teenage magazines and on local radio later this year to urge under-16s to discuss problems without fear of parents or teachers being told.

New guidance will be issued by the Department for Education and Skills to health professionals, while the Teenage Pregnancy Unit will brief social workers, foster carers and youth workers.

The fpa said: "Young people are often hesitant about asking advice because of issues around confidentiality and the new guidance will sort this out."
