Service inspections: Ofsted to cut inspections of services from this year

At a meeting of Parliament's Education and Skills Select Committee before Christmas, David Bell, chief inspector of schools at Ofsted, confirmed that the integration would effectively mean the end of separate inspections.

"There will be certain things that we will not be inspecting separately anymore," Bell told MPs on the committee.

Instead, joint area reviews will assess all services for children and young people in an area, relying on paper-based evidence from previous assessments as much as possible.

"In joint area reviews, fieldwork will be used where we have a lack of evidence from a previous inspection, or where there is cause for concern," said Bell.
