Scotland: MSPs to ban fizzy drinks in schools

Scotland is poised to ban sugary fizzy drinks in schools and set minimum nutritional standards for all school meals.

MSPs will vote on the Schools Health Promotion and Nutrition (Scotland)Bill for the last time today (14 March).

It is expected to go through with no major upsets. Key proposals includeensuring schools promote health, and putting a duty on councils toencourage the take-up of free school meals.

But groups like Children in Scotland have expressed disappointment thatthe Bill does not cover pre-school children.
