It will be based in Gogarbank, Edinburgh, and is expected to cost about 1m. A donation of 250,000 from the Royal Bank of Scotland has kick-started the charity's efforts to raise more funds to complete the project, which is scheduled to open in autumn 2006.
Frances Denton, head of fundraising at Barnardo's Scotland, said: "It is difficult to say how many young people will benefit from it." She explained: "We are working with 40 families at the moment, so it depends on how many children they have, but we also hope to be able to have additional young people using the daycare facilities."
