Policy Mapping Health and Young People, funded by the Scottish Executive, found Scottish youth health policies failed to address problems caused by clashes over different age definitions used by service providers.
The report examines Scotland's youth health policies. Partnership working and the need to address health inequalities were identified as underlying policy themes by the report, which also summarises Scottish youth policy documents since 1997. It is published as part of Walk The Talk, an initiative run by Health education organisation Fast Forward Positive Lifestyles and Youthlink Scotland to improve health provision for young people.
Margaret McLeod, senior development officer for projects and practice at Youthlink Scotland, said: "Different organisations and Scottish Executive departments disagree on what they mean by the term 'young people'. In terms of developing an integrated agenda, this can cause difficulties."
