Scotland: Dumfries young to protest over cuts

The groups are forming in response to the threat of a 25 per cent cut to the council's Community Learning and Development service, which is responsible for youth work. The groups' actions include internet forum campaigns and petitions to councillors.

The young protesters warn that the proposed cut will devastate youth services in the area, which have already suffered from reduced resources and staffing levels.

The council's Business Review and Performance Committee recommended the cut in June. A decision is due to be made by councillors at the end of next month.
