Ministers are currently deciding how to implement the plans, which wereproposed by the Association of Directors of Social Work.
Under the proposal, drug addicted parents identified by a multi-agencyassessment as putting their children at significant risk would besubject to the test.
Bernadette Docherty, convenor of the association's children and familycare committee, said the tests would provide a way of confirming whetheror not these parents were abusing drugs.
The Scottish Drugs Forum said the tests could discourage parents fromseeking help. But Docherty said that the tests would only apply whenchildren were at "significant risk".
