Scotland calls for childcare support

1 min read Social Care
The Scottish Government has called on the UK government to do more to help poor parents with childcare bills.

In a recent meeting with England's children's minister Beverley Hughes, her Scottish counterpart Adam Ingram called for the childcare element of the working tax credit and childcare vouchers to be merged into a more accessible system.

"We need a simplified approach that will make the process easier for parents and improve uptake, which is particularly low for the hard-pressed families who need help the most," he said.

"I am particularly concerned that, because under this system childcare support is limited to two children per family, the needs of larger families are not being met. These are the very families who will be facing financial difficulties in this current climate."
