Scotland: Antisocial bill under threat from rebels

Three Liberal Democrat MSPs - enough to jeopardise the executive's Parliamentary majority - have already said they plan to vote against clauses in the bill allowing police to disperse groups of two or more young people. They also intend to oppose a measure allowing electronic tags to be used on under-16s.

Rebel MSP Mike Rumbles said he supported the general principles of the bill, but is against the use of dispersal powers. "The measures target young people and in a liberal, democratic and progressive society they have no place," he said.

The other Liberal MSPs against the proposals are Donald Gorrie and Mike Pringle.
